Nathaniel Sullivan, UNL class of 2014, is having a wonderful career, keeping busy in the world of opera, concert, and art song. Performing the demanding principal role of John the Baptist, Nathan is currently in the middle of a run of Richard Strauss’s opera Salome in Brooklyn with the Heartbeat Opera company. This week, the New York Times praised the daring production, and commended Nathan’s “somber and appropriately a bit deranged” performance of John the Baptist.
Bill Shomos, Director of UNL Opera, had the joy of attending the preview performance of the Heartbeat Opera production. “Nathan was stunning in his performance,” Bill reports. “Most striking for me was hearing how his beautiful voice has blossomed in size and color, with every word impeccably clear and truthfully sung.”
Nathan performed in several UNL Opera productions while at UNL, and returned in 2020 as a guest artist to sing the role of Vincent Van Gogh in The Highest Yellow. While at UNL, Nathan studied voice with Alisa Belflower.
This past fall, Lincoln audiences had the opportunity to hear Nathan perform as the featured soloist with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra in works by Ravel and David von Kampen.
